MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced new Freight All Kinds (FAK) base rates for cargo moving from all Far East ports, including ports in Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia, to North Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Black Sea.

The new rates will take effect from 1 March 2026 and will remain valid until further notice, but not beyond 14 March 2026. All rates are quoted in US dollars and apply on a base port to base port basis, with outports subject to the usual TAO and TAD charges.

For shipments to North Europe, MSC has set FAK rates at USD 1,800 per 20-foot dry container and USD 3,000 per 40-foot dry or high-cube container.

For the Western Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Eastern Mediterranean, the new rates are USD 3,150 per 20-foot container and USD 4,500 per 40-foot container. Shipments to the Black Sea will be charged USD 3,200 per 20-foot container and USD 4,600 per 40-foot container.

For North Africa, rates vary by destination. Cargo bound for Algeria will be charged USD 4,900 per 20-foot container and USD 7,000 per 40-foot container, while shipments to Libya will be charged USD 4,600 per 20-foot container and USD 6,600 per 40-foot container. For Morocco (Casablanca), the rates are USD 3,800 per 20-foot container and USD 5,500 per 40-foot container, and for Tunisia, USD 4,600 per 20-foot container and USD 6,600 per 40-foot container.

MSC said the base rates include the ocean freight component as well as the Global Fuel Surcharge (GFS) of USD 54 per TEU valid for March 2026, and Emission Control Area (ECA) surcharges of USD 15 per TEU for the Mediterranean and selected North European countries, and USD 52 per TEU for other Nordic and Baltic destinations.

The rates remain subject to additional charges, including the Carbon Limitation Surcharge (CLS) of USD 20 per TEU and the Carbon Review Surcharge (CRS) of USD 91 per TEU for North Europe and USD 115 per TEU for the Mediterranean.

MSC noted that the FAK rates exclude IMO category commodities and high-value cargo.
