Plastic Ingenuity purchases German company Spezi-Pack
North American custom thermoforming company Plastic Ingenuity has acquired Spezi-Pack, a thermoforming business located near Dresden, Germany.
The acquisition allows Plastic Ingenuity to begin manufacturing packaging for medical devices and pharmaceuticals within Europe, aiming to streamline operations for its customers in the region.
Spezi-Pack brings close to 40 years of experience in the sector.
Spezi-Pack's former president Dirk Walters will continue leading the German operations, which are set to proceed without disruption.
Investment is planned for the facility to strengthen its healthcare packaging capabilities.
Upgrades will include a new ISO Class 7 cleanroom and additional thermoforming lines.
The expanded capacity for medical and pharmaceutical packaging is scheduled to be in place by 2027.
Plastic Ingenuity CEO and president Dan Kuehn said: “With manufacturing now available in both North America and Europe, Plastic Ingenuity is better positioned to support localised production, improve supply chain resilience, and meet the evolving needs of global healthcare customers.
“A strong, tenured team is already in place, and they are excited about the growth opportunities our new ownership will provide to them.”
Plastic Ingenuity supplies packaging across the food, healthcare, and consumer goods industries.
Its quality inspections include checks for material thickness, flatness, clarity, trim centring, snap forces, dimensional accuracy (using CMM or 2D vision systems), seal integrity testing (such as peel force and burst tests), form detail stress analysis, and surface inspections for factors like particulate presence and scratches.
