Senior Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai announced on March 4, 2026, that Singapore is developing a Masterplan to become a global hub port and international maritime centre.
The blueprint will be formalised by 2027 and focuses on competitiveness, a future-ready workforce, and leadership in maritime innovation and AI.
The development comes as international supply chains face strain due to the US-Iran war, the subsequent closure of the Hormuz Strait, which has increased oil and gas prices, labour shortages and other issues.
In this upheaval, Singapore wants to be a “steady conduit” for global trade by focusing on tech advancements and enhancing infrastructure.
The maritime authority of Singapore is expanding the Tuas Port. Phase two reclamation is 80% complete. 12 berths are operational, with 4 more expected to become active in 2026 and 2 in 2027.
MPA will also expand autonomous drone boat trials in late 2026 for hydrographic surveys and surveillance.
Also, a real-time virtual model will be opened to stakeholders in early 2026 to optimise ship
